SMALL PRINT SALON

  • Welcome to the Solway Small Print Salon for pictures in unmounted print format.
  • The maximum print (paper) size is based on A4 and the standard US letter size.
    The maximum print (paper) size including borders is (30.5cm by 21.6cm)(12 inches by 8.5 inches).
  • Prints can be in either landscape or portrait format.
  • NOTE: Mounted prints or Images printed on paper larger than the specified sizes will not be judged.

RECOGNITION

The Solway Small Print Salon has recognition from PSA (2018/390) for the Print Division. PSA awards plus Salon awards will be awarded in each section. The Salon will be run in accordance with International Exhibition rules and the Chairman's and Judges' decisions will be final. Exhibition acceptances will count towards PSA photo distinctions.

  • NOTE: Prints must be received by the Salon by the closing date (6 October 2018). Prints received after the closing date may be rejected and not shown to the judges.

JUDGES

The judging panel - Elena McTighe, FPSA,MPSA; Christine Hodgson, EPSA,EFIAP and Helen Herbert, FRPS.

ENTRY FEES

  • There is an entry fee of £12 for two sections and £15 for four sections.
  • Fees are to be paid through PayPal using either your own PayPal account or by utilising any current credit or debit card. Fees will be charged in Sterling.
  • The link to PayPal is provided as part of the on-line entry system.

NON PAYMENT OF FEES

  • The organisers regret that entries for which no fee is received, or where the entry fee is paid with foreign cheques or money orders, will not be judged or returned.

ENTRIES

  • Entry is open to all photographers, amateur and professional, worldwide.
     
  • Sections: Each entrant may submit a maximum of four prints in each of the following sections:
     
    • Section 1 : Colour - Open ( PSA - PPD Division)
    • Section 2 : Monochrome - Open ( PSA - PPD Division)
    • Section 3 : Colour - Landscape (PSA - PPD Division)
    • Section 4 : Monochrone - People (PSA - PPD Division)

     
  • Same ImageThe same image must not be submitted in more than one section.
     
  • Copyright: The original image(s) must have been taken using a photographic process and all entrants must have the sole copyright to each image they submit. Clip Art and Copyright Free material are not acceptable.

    The PSA and the Solway Small Print Salon assume no responsibility for misuse by anyone of the copyright of published images.
     
  • Compliance: The judges and organizers reserve the right, before, during or after judging to determine without providing a reason that an image or a whole entry is unsuitable to be included in the exhibition or that the entrant is not in their opinion a suitable person to be represented in the exhibition. Images which appear to violate the definitions will not be judged.
     
  • On-Line Entry: Entry to the Salon is made via the on-line entry form by clicking on this link ENTRY FORM. You will need to supply the titles of all of your prints. NOTE You must use only the Western/Latin alphabet when submitting an entry.
     
  • JPEG Copies: During the on-line entry you will need to upload a JPEG copy of the prints. (These copies are used when we produce the catalogue and gallery.) Maximum image size for the copy (including any borders) is 1400 pixels wide by 1050 pixels high. Please note portrait images should be no larger than 1050 pixels high. Smaller images are acceptable but will not reproduce to the same quality. Image file sizes should not be bigger than 2Mb. The JPEG copies do not need to be renamed when submitting an entry, but do NOT use single quote ( ' ) apostrophe ( ' ) hash ( # ) or equals ( = ) in your JPG filenames. These characters can cause your internet transmission to fail and crash. Please check all JPEG image sizes before submission; JPEG copies with sizes larger than specified will cause your submission to be rejected.

    NOTE: The requirement for a JPEG copy applies to all prints including those produced in a darkroom.
     
  • Labels: You will receive back a confirmation email containing thumbnails of all of the images you have submitted. The email will also have a PDF document containing labels. You will need to print out the labels and attach them to the back of your prints.

    NOTE: Prints submitted without the correct labels WILL be rejected and NOT shown to the judges.
     
  • Judging: An entrant's images (in each Section) will be distributed throughout four rounds of judging.
     
  • Titles: The titles of the prints may be read out to the judges at the time of judging. Do not put your name in the title.
     
  • Names: No information about the entrant or country will be given to the judges. A print showing the name of the entrant will not be judged.
     

SENDING YOUR PRINTS

  • Please send you prints by post to:

  • Please mark your packets - No commercial Value - Photographs for Exhibition
     
  • Please ensure that you have attached the special labels to the back of each of your prints.
     
  • NO prints will be returned. All prints will be destroyed.

NOTIFICATIONS

  • Status: The entry system produces a regular and frequent status page which can be accessed via the following link. The status pages shows the status of your entry and includes details of the receipt of your prints and your payment. Because it shows the status after your entry has been downloaded to our main processing systems, there can be a delay between your on-line entry and your entry appearing on the status page.


     
  • Results: Notification of results will be sent by email. Entrants should ensure that they provide an active email address and that spam filters are set to accept emails from chairman@solwaysalon.co.uk. Notifications will not be sent by post.

CATALOGUES

The catalogue in PDF format will be on the West Cumbria Photo Group web site. www.westcumbriaphotogroup.co.uk

REPRODUCTIONS

By submitting an entry for the Solway Small Print Salon the entrant permits the organisers to reproduce all or part of the entered material free of charge for publication in a catalogue, on an internet site and/or in other media related to the Salon.

DATA PROTECTION

By entering this exhibition, you are explicitly consenting to the personal details you have supplied, including email addresses, being held, processed and used by the exhibition organizers for purposes associated with this exhibition. You also explicitly consent to such information being sent to organizations which have accorded official recognition, patronage or accreditation to this exhibition. You acknowledge and accept that entering this exhibition means that the status and results of your entry may be made public.

COMPLIANCE

EXHIBITION INVESTIGATION
The organizers reserve the right at any time before, during or after judging to investigate any of your images to confirm that it complies with the terms specified in these Conditions Of Entry. This includes, but is not limited to, adherence to the relevant definitions and ensuring that you are the sole photographer and producer of the image. At the discretion of the organizers, this investigation may entail asking you to justify how your image meets the requirements. If in the opinion of the organizers an image fails in such an investigation, the organizers reserve the right either to judge it as not being suitable for the exhibition or to decline your full application and refund your entry fee. Under either situation, the full circumstances may be reported to the PSA who may undertake their own investigation and follow on action. Any image regarded as not suitable will lose any acceptance or award it might previously have been accorded.


PSA INVESTIGATION
By choosing to apply to have your images included in an exhibition which has been officially recognized by the Photographic Society of America (the PSA), you hereby acknowledge that the PSA has a right to investigate your completed application and the images for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the Conditions of Entry and any sanctions that the PSA may have imposed on you. You confirm that you will co-operate with any such investigation. This right to investigate arises from the submission of the application and will persist even if after the closing date you withdraw your application or any of the images or if the application or images are declined at any time by the organizers. If upon investigation and after giving you a reasonable opportunity to justify your application, the PSA is of the opinion that the application is not in accordance with the requirements, you acknowledge that the PSA has the right to impose sanctions including banning you from entering future PSA recognized exhibitions. If any sanctions are imposed, the PSA reserves the right to publicize the details and inform FIAP.

DEFINITIONS

Prints entered in the Monochrome Sections MUST comply with the Definition which is reproduced below. Images failing to do so, will not be judged.

All parts of the image must have been photographed by the author who is holding the copyright of all works submitted.

  • General

All parts of every image must be made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or captured digitally. All images must be original and may not incorporate elements produced by anyone else. Alteration to the original images must be done by the photographer.

  • Monochrome

An image is considered to be monochrome only if it gives the impression of having no colour (ie. Contains only shades of grey which can include pure black and pure white ) OR it gives the impression of being a greyscale image that has been toned in one colour across the entire image. (for example by sepia, red, gold etc. ) A greyscale or multi-coloured image modified or giving the impression of having been modified by partial toning, multi-toning or by the inclusion of spot colouring does not meet the definition of monochrome and shall be classified as a colour work.
